Meet Mdm Ong Soh Ting, an 88-year-old former resident at MWS Nursing Home – Yew Tee (YTNH). Living with Alzheimer’s disease, she joined the Nursing Home in early 2023 due to increased care needs.

Initially quiet and reserved, with low spirits and limited engagement, Mdm Ong’s condition took a heartening turn following regular interaction with Dexie, a humanoid robot.

Within two months, Mdm Ong started speaking a lot more, expressing herself better, and feeling happier. Witnessing her remarkable progress, her son decided to bring her home to be cared for by a helper. Mdm Ong was happily discharged in December 2023.

Success stories from digitalisation efforts like Dexie were among initiatives shared with delegates from a Hong Kong social service organisation during their visit to MWS YTNH on 24 January 2024.

The 22-member team from the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council (HKSKHWC) witnessed Dexie’s capabilities first-hand through a live demo and presentation. Dexie was designed to enhance nursing support and boost resident engagement through exercises, sing-alongs, group games and conversations.

The HKSKHWC team also visited MWS Senior Care Centre – Eunos, engaging in conversations with our elderly beneficiaries during a site tour. Through sharing sessions, MWS and HKSKHWC exchanged insights on primary healthcare and elderly services, including the use of technology in rehabilitation by MWS’ Allied Health team.

We look forward to hosting more delegates from international social service organisations, and welcome those interested to connect with us.
